Also known as linden, the lime flower tree is a deciduous tree that can grow to a height of 100 feet or more. The flowers and the herbal tea made from them have a sweet fragrance. The herbal tea has a pleasant taste. The tea has been popular since the middle Ages to aid perspiration 

Key Medicinal Uses 

Internally – Lime flower has both tranquilizing and stimulating qualities. It is used to relieve headaches, indigestion, diarrhea and hysteria. This herb was once thought to be so effective at treating epilepsy that a person could be cured by sitting beneath the tree. Herbal tea is taken to ease insomnia, relieve tension and anxiety, to calm children who are excitable or restless, and to reduce muscle tension. It is also a pleasant tasting remedy for menstrual cramps, colic and cramping. Due to the bioflavonoid in lime flower and its relaxing qualities, this herb is good for lowering high blood pressure and easing arteriosclerosis, along with treating palpitations and coronary heart disease. Benefits of taking this herbal remedy include reducing fever, especially in children, and it can help congestion of blocked nasal passages

Externally – Lime flower infusion can be added to a warm bath to encourage relaxation and to ease stress. It can be used as a compress for eye infections or be added to lotion to soothe dry skin and treat brown spots

Preparation and Dosage 

Lime flower is most frequently taken as an herbal tea, although it is also available as an extract or in capsules. To make an infusion, place 3 flowers in 1 cup of hot water. It may be sweetened with honey if desired. Take 8 ounces of infusion three times per day to relieve stress, indigestion, headaches and tension. It can also be added to the bath to calm down after a stressful day. The infusion can also be used as a compress for eye infections or added to a face lotion. An infusion made from the sapwood is a good diuretic and helps the gall bladder. Tincture can be taken in doses of 2-1/2 to 5 ml at bedtime for insomnia. For high blood pressure take 2 ml three times per day
